Why SimplyMEPIS 7.0 Linux?

SimplyMEPIS as a Live CD or DVD allows you to run the Linux operating system and all the programs from your CD or DVD drive before you install. There is no need to backup all your data, delete the whole hard disk and install the system, just to find it doesn't meet your needs and expectations.

Insert the SimplyMepis disc in your drive and reboot your computer. Simple menu choices will quickly load SimplyMEPIS Linux allowing you to login. You'll have a SimplyMEPIS desktop just as it would be when you install it to your hard drive. Test the included software, see if it supports all your hardware, and assure that your internet connection works. You can also use SimplyMEPIS as a recovery CD for troubleshooting computers and providing the tools to save your valuable data.

Programs, Programs, Programs...


SimplyMEPIS 7.0 arrives with a complete choice of the best of programs necessary for most people's productivity delivered on top of a Debian stable core. We've already selected the best applications available to work for you. But, if you want more, SimplyMEPIS Linux doesn't limit you. Thousands more software packages are available for free from the MEPIS and Debian Stable repositories and are easily installed using a package manager, such as Synaptic or KPackage. All you need is an internet connection.

Whether or not you run a business, you need office software. SimplyMEPIS includes the award winning OpenOffice with word processor and spreadsheet pre-installed. Other OpenOffice components for areas such as presentations, databases and graphics are just a click away. OpenOffice provides excellent compatibility with MS-Office, and supports open document format. SimplyMEPIS also includes Thunderbird and KMail email clients, Firefox and Konqueror browsers, chat, GIMP Image Editor, and a host of other useful programs.

SimplyMEPIS doesn't leave out the fun, either. Play games like Tux Racer and KSudoku, watch videos with Real Player, surf the internet with flash and java enabled right out of the box, and play your favorite music with Amarok. Hardware That's Not Hard

If you've ever installed any operating system you know the many hours spent installing drivers and getting your hardware and peripherals to work. Some things may never work properly. The SimplyMEPIS hardware detection takes care of installing the drivers for you. It checks on every boot for new hardware, then loads the right driver. SimplyMEPIS also makes it easy to manage your system with the unique MEPIS Assistants found in the System Configuration (Settings).

As with any other Linux distribution, there can be unexpected problems. SimplyMepis isn't perfect, but we're getting close. There are several reliable ways to deal with problems and issues in SimplyMEPIS.

A complete User's Manual developed by the MEPIS community is available to you from the desktop that guides you through installation, configuration and use. The default language is English, but others are available as well.

The MEPIS Wiki contains practical information for both newbies and experts. It is maintained by the community, and is the first stop for any user's questions.

Kernel Update Contains Security Patches
