A desktop environment (DE, sometimes desktop manager) offers a graphical user interface (GUI) to the computer, typically it provides icons, windows, toolbars, folders, wallpapers, and abilities like drag and drop. The mainstream desktop environments for Linux include KDE (default in MEPIS), GNOME, Xfce, and Fluxbox (default in antiX).
