There are a number of programs that permit video chatting in MEPIS Linux.

  • Ekiga -- Ekiga (formerly known as GnomeMeeting) is an open source SoftPhone, Video Conferencing and Instant Messenger application over the Internet.
  • QuteCom -- QuteCom is the new name for the open source softphone previously known as WengoPhone. Another multi-client app with good hardware recognition. Before installing the downloaded Wengo deb package, use Synaptic to install libssl0.9.7. NOTE: download the deb for Wengo from here if not available in the repos.
  • aMSN -- a free open-source MSN Messenger clone.
  • GYachI --a Yahoo! client for Linux. Currently only works on MEPIS 6.5. To install, download the Ubuntu Dapper deb package. Before you install it, install these three packages through Synaptic: xmms libmcrypt4 libgtk1.2 If you get a blowfish error message, you can stop it by removing the blowfish plugin /usr/local/share/gyachi/plugins/gyachigpgme.so
  • Skype. Popular free proprietary program available for MEPIS
