I recently noticed AI features showing up on my iPhone, and I’m not sure how to disable them. I’ve checked settings but I’m confused about which options actually turn off AI on iPhone, and I need help figuring out the right steps.
If you mean Apple Intelligence on iPhone, go here.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apple Intelligence and Siri.
- Turn off Apple Intelligence.
If you want fewer AI style features, check these too.
- Settings, Siri, or Apple Intelligence and Siri.
- Turn off Listen for Siri.
- Turn off Press Side Button for Siri.
- Turn off Suggestions from Apple, if you see it.
For photos and search stuff.
- Settings, Apps, Photos.
- Turn off features like Show Featured Content, Memories, or Search related options if they bug you.
For Mail summaries or writing tools.
- Open the app settings if available.
- Turn off Summaries, Smart Replies, or Writing Tools.
Small catch. Some iPhone features use machine learning in the background and Apple does not give a full off switch for every part. Face ID, photo search, keyboard prediction, spam filtering. Those stay unless you disable each one indivdually.
If you post your iPhone model and iOS version, people here can point to the exact menu. Apple moved this stuff around a bit, which is annoyng.
A small thing to add to what @viajeroceleste said: on some iPhones, the easiest way to tell if it’s actually Apple Intelligence is whether you see features like notification summaries, writing tools, image cleanup, or the new Siri animation. If you do, turning off just Siri won’t fully kill it. People mix those up a lot.
Also, if your goal is ‘less AI junk’ instead of ‘disable every machine learning feature,’ I’d check these:
- Notifications > turn off Summarize Notifications
- Safari > hide/search suggestions if those annoy you
- Keyboard > turn off Predictive text, Auto-Correction, and inline suggestions
- Privacy & Security > review Analytics and Improve Siri/Dictation
- Spotlight/Search settings > disable suggestion types you don’t want showing up
I kinda disagree with the idea that there’s one clean master switch for all AI on iPhone, because there really isn’t for most models. Apple bundles a lot of this stuff into normal iPhone behavior. So if you want it to feel less ‘AI-ish,’ you usually have to go feature by feature, which is super annyoing.
If you’re not seeing an Apple Intelligence menu at all, then you probably have an older iPhone or iOS version, and what you’re seeing is just Siri/search/prediction stuff, not the newer AI package. That part trips ppl up all the time.

A lot of the “AI on iPhone” feeling comes from app-level stuff, not just Apple’s system features. Things I’d look at:
- Photos: turn off things like Memories/Featured Content if those bug you
- Mail: disable smart suggestions, contact predictions, and follow-up reminders if shown
- Siri & Search: open each app and turn off Learn from this App, Show Suggestions, and content in Search
- Apple apps like Notes or Messages: check for writing/helpful suggestion options inside the app settings
- Third-party apps: Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Meta apps, shopping apps, and keyboards often add their own AI separately
I slightly disagree with the “there’s no clean switch” take only because on newer supported phones, Apple Intelligence can be disabled pretty directly. The messy part is everything outside that switch.
Big downside: turning this stuff off can make search, typing, and app suggestions feel dumber.
Upside: less clutter, fewer summaries, less data sharing feel.
Pros for ‘’: can improve readability if it organizes settings clearly.
Cons for ‘’: not useful if it doesn’t match your exact iPhone/iOS version.
