From MEPIS Documentation Wiki
There are two screensaver systems for MEPIS, KDE Screensaver (kscreensaver) and Xscreensaver. This article concerns the KDE Screensaver system, consult the link at the bottom for Xscreensaver.
MEPIS includes KDE's set of screensavers and a screensaver manager by default. To modify or change screensavers, right-click the desktop, select Configure Desktop... This opens KDesktop where you can click on Screensavers in the left panel to determine which screensaver to use, how much time of inaction should pass before the screensaver begins, and other options. You may want to use Synaptic to search for "screensaver" to consider other available packages.
KDE 4.x and MEPIS 8.5
Open System Settings --> Display --> Screen Saver Determine which screensaver to use, how much time of inaction should pass before the screensaver begins, and other options. You may want to use Synaptic to search for "screensaver" to consider other available packages.
- If you choose to download a new KDE screensaver, you will have to use an installation method that suits the package (often source code).
- You can make a screensaver out of your own images by opening KDesktop as described above, then opening the Banners and Pictures submenu and clicking on Media Screen Saver. Click the Setup button to select images and behavior.
- KDE screensavers are stored in /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers
